چکیده

We calculate differential cross sections and the spin transfer coefficient D nn in the p+α → p+α+π 0 reaction for proton bombarding energies from 1 to 10 GeV and π 0 − p invariant masses spanning the region of the N * (1440) Roper resonance. Two processes – ∆ excitation in the α-particle and Roper excitation in the proton – are included in an effective reaction model which was shown previously to reproduce existing inclusive spectra. The present calculations demonstrate that these two contributions can be clearly distinguished via D nn , even under kinematic conditions where cross sections alone exhibit no clear peak structure due to the excitation of the Roper.

Recent experiments at Saturne at 4 GeV showed that the (α, α ′) reaction on the proton shows two distinctive peaks, which were associated to ∆ projectile excitation and Roper target excitation. A subsequent theoretical analysis has shown that this picture is qualitatively correct but there are important interference effects between the two mechanisms. Futhermore, at this energy the ratio of str...

We study the Roper excitation in the (α, α ′) reaction. We consider all processes which may be relevant in the Roper excitation region, namely, Roper excitation in the target, Roper excitation in the projectile, and double ∆ excitation processes. The theoretical investigation shows that the Roper excitation in the proton target mediated by an isoscalar exchange is the dominant mechanism in the ...

Comparison of Copper-61 Radioisotop Production Yield via Reactions of 64Zn(p,α)61Cu, natZn(p,x)61Cu, 61Ni(p,n)61Cu, and natNi(p,x)61Cu in Hospital Cyclotron using TALYS, EMPIRE, and MCNPX Nuclear Codes

Background & Aims: Copper-61 (61Cu) is a radioisotope with a half-life of 3.33 hours which decays to nickel-61 isotope byβ+  emission (61%) or electron capture (39%). This radioisotope can be used in the evaluation of the blood supply of the heart and low-oxygen cancer tissues imaging with PET. 61Cu is mainly produced by bombarding zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) targets in medium cyclot...

Photon-induced Reactions in Stars and in the Laboratory: A Critical Comparison

Photon-induced reactions during the astrophysical p(or γ-) process occur at typical temperatures of 1.8 ≤ T9 ≤ 3.3. Experimental data of (γ,n), (γ,p), or (γ,α) reactions – if available in the relevant energy region – cannot be used directly to measure astrophysical (γ,n), (γ,p), or (γ,α) reaction rates because of the thermal excitation of target nuclei at these high temperatures. Usually, stati...

Projectile ∆ and target - Roper excitation in the p ( d , d ′ ) X reaction

In this paper we compare a model that contains the mechanisms of ∆ excitation in the projectile and Roper excitation in the target with experimental data from two (d, d ′) experiments on a proton target. The agreement of the theory with the experiment is fair for the data taken at T d = 2.3 GeV. The ∆ excitation in the projectile is predicted close to the observed energy with the correct width....
